SYNOPSIS

JOSEPHINE TONIGHT! A new musical about the early life of Josephine Baker as told by Carrie, her earthy laundress mother.  It follows Josephine from the harsh poverty of the Jim Crow South to the Black Vaudeville circuit where she joins the company of Big Bertha Smith, goes on to Broadway during the Harlem Renaissance, concluding with Baker’s triumph in Paris at the age of twenty.   The relationship between Josephine, Carrie, and Bertha, her mentor (a dual role) shapes this musical, as Josephine grows as a woman and finds her place and purpose in the world.  There is a cast of ten.
