In keeping with MainStreet’s basic mission, our Development programs are designed to introduce Recommended works into America’s Regional Communities in the hope that some individual or organization will “pick them up” and move them forward towards local production.
Directors' Choice Awards
Works nominated by both Evaluators are automatically entered as semi-finalists in MainStreet’s DIRECTORS’ CHOICE AWARD (DCA) competition. A Jury of theater professionals determines six finalists and MainStreet’s GUEST ARTISTIC DIRECTOR selects the Season’s three winners. | Take me there >>
A centrally coordinated network of independent theater Festivals - normally featuring 3 shows. MainStreet assists in launching these Festivals and supplies them with new DCA recipients each Season. Festival presentations are mounted in “concert-reading” (minimal staging) format. | Take me there >>
The precedent program for MainStreet TableRead. University theatre students select scenes from shows in MainStreet’s Library for use in scene study classes. Students working with faculty supervision may prepare concert or staged readings of Recommended works.
MainStreet Benefits & Special Events
Local MainStreet Affiliates organized presentations of Recommended works as fundraisers for local charities – local public radio stations, theatre companies, university theatre programs, etc. | Take me there >>
The MainStreet Songbook
Evaluators routinely identify (from submissions) the best new show tunes for performance in concert by high school and college choruses and soloists, and in the annual MainStreet-Acceptd Songbook competition for college-level performers. | Take me there >>
“Boulevard Tours” MainStreet On-The-Road
In the years to come, working with independent theatre producers, MainStreet will facilitate tours and co-productions of additional attractions: sneak previews of new shows, concerts, acts, and other events. | Take me there >>
